#1 – Blood Stains

In case of a blood stain, be sure to act fast. Use cold water to rinse the area as thoroughly as possible. Follow up with a combination of cold water and 2 tablespoons ammonia in a spray bottle. You may also try Oxi-Clean on blood stains.

#2 – Ink Stains

Gently dab the stain with a clean cloth saturated in isopropyl alcohol. Be sure not to rub the area too hard and always test the area first for any discoloration. Nail polish remover also works well on ink stains.

#3 – Pet Stains

Pick up solid messes first then gently blot away any moisture. Next, you can try a specialty stain remover with ammonia that’s stated to be safe for pets. A solution of warm water and vinegar followed with a light sprinkle of baking soda is also effective. Just keep in mind that in order to remove pet stains and odors entirely, you’ll need to schedule a pet urine odor removal treatment at least once each year.

#4 – Water Soluble Stains

This category includes substances like vomit, wine, or chocolate. Try a cleaning solution of 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon ammonia or 1 part chlorine bleach and 5 parts water. It’s possible for bleach to damage carpet, so test the area first. For wool carpet, use only gentle soap and water.

#5 – Wax, Gum, Oil, Or Fat

Place ice over gum or wax to freeze it then chip the stain away using a blunt knife and vacuum away the remaining pieces. Place a paper towel over fat, oil, or wax then iron over it so the stain sticks to the towel.

#6 – Glue

Saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol then gently dab the stain to web the glue. Then, you should be able to use a soft cloth to wipe it away.

#7 – Coffee

Soak up as much of the stain as you can first, then apply a cleaning solution. A combination of 1 ¼ cup water and ¼ cup bleach is generally effective. Next, rinse the area with warm water and vacuum it dry. If your carpet can’t be bleached, schedule a professional carpet spot removal treatment.

#8 – Washable Ink Or Latex Paint

A small amount of ¼ teaspoon white vinegar and 32 ounces of water works well on these types of stains.

#9 – Alcoholic Drinks, Cola, Dyes, Or Food

Make a DIY cleaning solution using white vinegar or try a store bought cleaner like Oxi-Clean.
