Spring cleaning is an excellent opportunity to get rid of winter stuffiness and dust in your home. Chem-Dry can help with a full range of services—including upholstery cleaning in Ontario and Upland.
The following are a few furniture cleaning tips we’ve learned through decades in the industry.
1 – Start by vacuuming your furniture.
On a weekly basis, vacuum your furniture. And for deep spring cleaning, take it a step further by removing and washing cushions and getting to all the crevices underneath.
2 – Clean metal and polish wood on your furniture.
Use a gentle cleaning solution for wood or metal accent pieces on furniture, as well as wood polish.
3 – Treat your specific upholstery fabric.
Check the label on your furniture for cleaning instructions for your fabric. Common types include WS (safe to use mild detergent), S (dry cleaner detergent only), X (no water, vacuum only), W (safe to clean with water).
4 – Spot treat visible stains.
Use either a store-bought stain remover or a natural homemade solution. A mixture of ¼ cup vinegar, ¾ cup water, and a couple of drops of dish soap works well.
5 – Let your furniture dry.
Use a soft towel to soak up any remaining moisture, then let your furniture dry in a well-ventilated area. Use portable fans if needed. Aim to have your furniture dry in a couple of days, and keep an eye out for any mold or mildew growth.
6 – Schedule your professional upholstery cleaning appointment.
Be sure to schedule your professional upholstery cleaning at least once a year to keep stains, dust, allergens, and allergenses at bay.
